Delta Force redefines the military FPS genre by blending elements from various subgenres into one cohesive experience. Drawing inspiration from the large-scale, vehicle-heavy battles of Battlefield, the intense, nerve-wracking extractions of Escape from Tarkov, and the gripping narrative campaigns of classics like Call of Duty, this latest entry in the 26-year-old series delivers a diverse array of modes. Players can immerse themselves in epic 64-player PvP skirmishes, test their mettle in high-stakes extraction missions, or relive history in a campaign inspired by the iconic Black Hawk Down.

Currently in its open beta phase, Delta Force launches as a free-to-play title with two fully realized modes – Warfare and Extraction – while its campaign, planned as a paid DLC, remains on the horizon. Despite this staggered rollout, the game already showcases a unique identity, combining massive, chaotic battles with strategic gameplay that rewards teamwork and skill. The open beta offers a taste of the large-scale warfare to come, where fast respawns, dynamic terrain, and an array of military vehicles create the adrenaline-pumping intensity of a true battlefield.

Abilities are useful for support during combat

One of the standout features of Delta Force is the operatives you can choose from mid-match, each bringing a unique blend of utility and specialization to the battlefield. These operatives function as a hybrid between customizable loadouts and distinct heroes, aligning with the game’s versatile, jack-of-all-trades identity. For instance, when facing a barrage of enemy vehicles, switching to a character armed with a rocket launcher can turn the tide. Alternatively, wide-open skirmishes may call for a sniper rifle and precise long-range fire. Each character also comes equipped with unique abilities that provide valuable support during combat. Luna’s Detection Arrows, for example, reveal enemy positions periodically, making them invaluable for team coordination without tipping the balance unfairly in one team’s favor. These abilities aren’t overpowered, but they can give your squad a tactical edge when used strategically.

Operations mode offers a variety of unique enemies

Operations mode keeps things exciting with unpredictable encounters and strategic combat. Each mission pits you against squads of AI soldiers and occasionally human-controlled enemies, forcing quick decisions. Do you take the shot and risk drawing attention, or sneak by and leave a threat alive? The constant tension, especially when facing human opponents with valuable loot, adds a thrilling edge to every encounter.

The enemy variety is a standout feature. From riflemen and rooftop snipers to riot shield squads and armored foes with miniguns, every fight feels unique. One moment you’re dodging grenades, the next you’re scrambling as a giant alligator crashes the party. While the loot system can feel repetitive after a few runs, the Black Site home base offers a smooth way to upgrade your stash and prepare for the next mission, keeping the action flowing.

Bottom Line

Delta Force shows promise as a versatile free-to-play shooter, offering a mix of large-scale PvP, intense extraction gameplay, and a campaign still on the horizon. The scale of the Warfare mode is impressive, and the extraction missions deliver plenty of early thrills. However, the slower, simulation-style gunplay feels at odds with the fast-paced action in some modes, and it’s too soon to tell if the game’s variety will have the staying power to keep players engaged long-term. For now, it’s a solid option for fans of tactical FPS games, though whether it can truly stand out in a crowded market remains to be seen.

There is a lot to look forward to in every newsletter, and we are in active communication with several developers and studios. More to come next week!
