Whiskey & Zombies: The Great Southern Zombie Escape

Whiskey & Zombies: The Great Southern Zombie Escape is a chaotic top-down brawler where moonshine is your only cure—and your biggest curse. Play as one of the rowdy McCreary clan, a dysfunctional Southern family immune to the zombie virus as long as they stay drunk, and fight, sneak, or stumble your way through undead-infested Louisiana. With local co-op mayhem, a dynamic drunk mechanic, and just enough strategy to balance the chaos, it’s a wild, whiskey-fueled road trip you won’t forget.

Featured Game Review: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is bold, bewildering, and completely unafraid to go off the deep end, and that’s exactly what makes it work. From sentient dummies to oil-drenched apparitions, Kojima’s sequel hurls surrealism at the screen with a straight face, inviting you into a world where meaning and madness walk hand in hand. But buried beneath the chaos is a remarkably refined game: one that strengthens the narrative core, polishes the systems, and leans into the existential themes that made the original so compelling—and divisive.
If the first Death Stranding felt like a cryptic dream you couldn’t quite decode, On the Beach is the lucid follow-up you didn’t know you needed. It smooths over much of the friction, introduces new layers of depth to both the story and gameplay, and expands its mythos without ever sacrificing its soul. It’s still weird—sometimes aggressively so—but the weirdness now feels more purposeful, more earned. For players who were on the fence the first time, this sequel might just be what tips you over into true devotion.
The game takes a unique approach that wasn't present in the original
There’s a newfound sense of mischief running through Death Stranding 2—particularly in its combat—that simply didn’t exist in the original. Where the first game often felt rigid and methodical, On the Beach invites you to experiment, improvise, and revel in the absurdity of it all. Whether you’re stealth-tranquing your way through a base, hijacking an enemy’s vehicle mid-charge, or mounting a full-on assault from the turret of your own Frankenstein off-roader, the game rewards creativity with chaos. It adds just enough power fantasy to keep things fun, without ever letting you forget how fragile life still is in this world.
Despite the added muscle, Death Stranding 2 doesn’t aim to be a punishing combat simulator, and that’s deliberate. The enemy AI isn’t brilliant, but that works in favor of the game’s playful tone. On normal difficulty, you’re unlikely to face much resistance unless you actively go looking for it. Instead, the challenge comes in the form of variety: how you build your Sam, which tools you choose to carry, and the perks you equip to suit your style. Stealthy couriers can scrub out their footprints to go unseen. Gun-heavy players get access to lock-on upgrades. Even the act of interacting with the online community, liking a well-placed bridge or zipline, can shape your experience through passive perks. It’s a generous system that molds itself around the way you want to play, rather than forcing you to adapt to it.
That customisation is echoed in the gear, too. On the Beach constantly surprises with new gadgets: blood boomerangs that drain your health, missile-firing robo-dogs, and yes, coffin hoverboards. The more you engage with the world, the more absurd and effective your toolkit becomes. It’s not just flair for flair’s sake, either. A sprawling continent like Australia demands clever traversal and collaboration, and whether you’re riding the newly built six-car monorail or tearing across sandstorms in a customised haulier, it all fits. If the first game was a lonely hike across desolation, the sequel is a wild road trip with a full bag of toys and a few ghosts in the trunk.
Bottom line
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is everything the original aspired to be—stranger, sharper, and far more confident in its execution. By trimming away the friction and doubling down on both story and systems, Kojima delivers a sequel that feels not just more playable, but more purposeful. Its surrealism is still intact, but now it enhances rather than hinders, blending beautifully with a cinematic, emotionally rich journey across a reimagined Australia. It won’t win over everyone, but for those open to its rhythm, it’s a bold, thrilling, and deeply original experience that more than earns its place in gaming’s weirdest hall of fame.
