Synduality Echo of Ada wastes no time in throwing players into its mech-flavored extraction shooter challenges. Mistakes like skipping repairs, mismanaging resources, or misjudging encounters can lead to devastating losses, making every decision critical. Yet, even in the face of failure, the urge to dive back in and reclaim what was lost is irresistible, showcasing the game’s ability to keep players engaged and determined.

Set in a post-apocalyptic future, Synduality introduces a unique world where humanity has been forced underground by the Tears of the New Moon, a mysterious blue rain that kills on contact and transforms plants and animals into massive, aggressive threats. Players take on the role of a Drifter, piloting Cradlecoffins — agile yet weighty mechs designed to navigate the hostile surface world. The objective is simple yet challenging: collect energy-producing AO Crystals, upgrade equipment, and make it back alive.

The game manages to be effortlessly charming

The game starts as a grind, with players running repetitive missions to scavenge resources and slowly expand their base. Playing as a Drifter alongside a customizable Magnus companion, the gameplay revolves around exploring dangerous overworlds in Cradlecoffin mechs, defeating enemies, and collecting items. While initially frustrating, the gradual progression becomes rewarding as every upgrade, crafted weapon, or new piece of equipment feels meaningful. The charm truly lies in the connection with Magnus, whose quirky personality and constant presence, whether offering encouragement or amusing dialogue, brings life to the game.

The game’s charm is most evident in its humorous and heartfelt moments. After one failed battle, Magnus returned worse for wear, apologizing profusely while sporting burn marks and missing hair—an oddly endearing scene. Missions encourage exploration and tense encounters with other players, where cooperation can lead to valuable rewards. While you can’t team up with friends, the unpredictability of these interactions keeps the stakes high and the gameplay engaging.

Most of the players don't want to kill you

Players encounter others in the overworld, but surprisingly, most interactions lean more toward cautious cooperation than outright hostility. Encounters often begin tensely, with both parties aiming their weapons, only for one to break the ice with a wave emote. This small gesture often leads to a moment of mutual understanding, and both players part ways peacefully. The game’s premise of humanity working together against a hostile environment fosters this cautious camaraderie, though there’s always the lingering risk that someone may see your valuable gear and decide it’s worth betraying you.

Managing each mission comes down to carefully calculated decisions. How far are you willing to stray from the safety of the underground elevators? What resources are worth the risk? From ammo and repair kits to mech loadouts and carrying capacity, every choice can determine success or failure. The core gameplay loop, while repetitive, remains engaging thanks to the mix of exploration, danger, and preparation. However, microtransactions and a battle pass system cast a shadow over the experience.

Bottom Line

Synduality Echo of Ada offers a unique take on the extraction shooter genre, blending tense, player-driven encounters with a satisfying progression system. Its storytelling, delivered through optional video and audio logs, adds depth for those who seek it, while others can focus solely on customizing their Magnus and looting the overworld. Though the slow pace of progression and presence of battle pass mechanics may deter some players, the overall experience remains rewarding for those willing to dive in. This is a game with potential, laying a solid foundation for future updates and improvements.
