A big welcome back to all Loot Happens subscribers. Loot Happens is a weekly newsletter that is emailed and also gets posted on LootHappens.com.

It's important to note that for premium subscribers, game offerings, and in-game content, every week is different. Sometimes it's in-game codes, Steam keys, and giveaways, but premium members will always get something special every mailing. We also occasionally get mind-blowing early access or premium games that pay for an entire year's subscription.

Each newsletter is generally structured as Premium Loot > Free Sub Giveaways > Game Feature > Game discounts.

Star Wars Outlaws strides confidently into the galaxy, offering a refreshing departure from the usual Jedi-centric adventures. While we've wielded lightsabers and unleashed Force powers countless times, this open-world action game reminds us that sometimes, a trusty blaster and a quick wit are all you need. Channeling the spirit of Han Solo, Outlaws delivers a swashbuckling, space-western experience filled with thrilling gunbattles, shady deals, and a dash of roguish charm. But like the Millennium Falcon’s captain, it’s not without its flaws—occasionally scruffy, sometimes unreliable, but undeniably packed with adventure.

Set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the game introduces us to Kay Vass, a resourceful thief raised in the shadowy underbelly of Canto Bight. Kay’s journey through the galaxy is reminiscent of classic Star Wars rogues like Dash Rendar and Kyle Katarn—characters who, while capable and engaging, never quite escape the shadow of the original scoundrel with a heart of gold. Accompanied by her mischievous six-fingered pet, Nix, Kay embarks on a 20-hour odyssey across a handful of vibrant planets, all while dodging the wrath of crime lord Sliro and assembling a crew of fellow outlaws.

Whether exploring the dungeons beneath Jabba’s palace or navigating the remains of a High Republic cruiser, Star Wars Outlaws offers a compelling narrative filled with familiar faces and new, dangerous locales. Much like Han Solo himself, it's a journey that is as endearing as it is rough around the edges—a must-play for those who prefer their Star Wars with a bit of swagger.

Walking the line between crime and consequence

In Star Wars Outlaws, your choices might not significantly impact the story’s outcome, but they do immerse you in the galaxy’s criminal underbelly. Balancing alliances with various crime families adds a layer of intrigue as you navigate through deals and betrayals.

Exploration is key, and the game excels at organically revealing secrets and opportunities through conversations and datapads. While some side activities feel like filler, standout quests, like finding hidden caches or escaping from giant sandworms, deliver thrilling moments that capture the essence of Star Wars.

However, technical issues mar the experience. Bugs like unresponsive controls, disappearing dialogue, and visual glitches can disrupt immersion. Despite these flaws, Outlaws offers a swashbuckling adventure that’s worth experiencing if you can overlook its rough edges.

Bottom Line

Star Wars Outlaws might not break new ground, but like the Millennium Falcon, it’s a scrappy adventure that’s hard not to love despite its flaws. While its open-world mechanics and combat can feel a bit repetitive and clunky, the clever syndicate system and the delightful presence of Nix add enough charm and depth to keep you engaged. It’s a familiar ride through the galaxy, but for Star Wars fans, it still manages to hit light speed, even if it sputters.
